FORMER EP RAPPORTEUR FOR TURKEY KATI PIRI: PROMISES MADE TO TURKEY NOT KEPT

03/03/2020

Serhat TUNAR -TDO- Kati Piri, a former European Parliament Rapporteur on Turkey, criticised the European Union's call for Turkey to comply with the asylum seeker agreement.

In his message, Kati Piri said: "What part should Turkey abide by? In 2016, it was stated that visas would be abolished; 6 billion euros had been committed until 2018, but funds are lagging, no new funds are envisaged; there is no opening of new chapters; on the other hand, only 25 thousand refugees have been resettled in 3 years."

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Union Council President Charles Michel and European Parliament President David Sassoli will hold a series of meetings and reviews in Greece on Tuesday (today).
