EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT VOTE ON TURKEY'S EU MEMBERSHIP
News Center - The European Parliament (EP) has decided to temporarily freeze Turkey' accession negotiations with the European Union (EU). In a plenary session, MEPs voted 479 in favour on the temporary freezing of negotiations with Turkey, with 37 against and 107 abstentions. However, since the EP has no authority to terminate or freeze accession negotiations, the bill, which is not legally binding, is a recommendation. Only EU leaders can take the decision to freeze negotiations with Turkey. In this context, it is expected that the issue will be added to the agenda in the EU Leaders Summit in December.Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım spoke to the journalists and stressed that Europe should decide whether or not Europe will shape the future vision with Turkey or without Turkey, and he added "This decision has no importance for us."
