Aslıhan DOĞRU -TDO- The Afghan government has asked European countries to stop deporting Afghan asylum seekers for the next three months.
The Kabul government cited the recent increase in Taliban violence and the increase in the number of new cases of coronavirus (Covid-19) in Afghanistan.
The Ministry of Refugees and Return said in a statement that the "state of war" and the third wave of Covid-19 infections had caused economic and social unrest in Afghanistan and "worried the country about the return of Afghan migrants."
The ministry said in a statement that it "does not consider the current situation in the country suitable for the forced return of Afghan migrants until the security situation improves."
The United Nations (UN) said this week that the country was experiencing huge waves of migration as the United States and its allies began withdrawing their troops from Afghanistan.
