Serhat TUNAR -TDO- The European Commission is preparing to give 500 million euros in financial aid to Turkey in a bid to ease growing tensions over the migrant crisis. In addition to this decision, the European Commission will facilitate visa procedures for Turkish citizens to enter Europe.
A senior official said 500m euros in aid would be added to the 6 billion euros pledged to Turkey under the asylum seeker agreement, AFP news agency reported.
The European Union had transferred about 4 billion euros of the 6 billion it had committed to Turkey, where there are about 3 million migrants, since 2016.
Josep Borrell, the European Union's High Representative for Foreign Relations and security policy, announced that the European Union would provide 170 million euros in aid to improve humanitarian conditions in Syria. This amount is not associated with 500 million euros.
