Serhat TUNAR -TDO- The European Union has announced it will impose sanctions on some authorities in the country over police violence seen in protests that began with the vow of Elections in Belarus.

On behalf of the European Union, Josep Borrell, the High Representative for Foreign Relations and security policy of the European Union, said that they are closely monitoring the situation in Belarus and that the people in the election campaigns showed their desire for Democratic Change.

Borell said the presidential election held in Belarus on August 9 was not free and fair. Borrell said they would take measures against those responsible for public violence by police forces and tampering with the election results during the post-election demonstrations, and would review bilateral relations with Belarus.
