Aslıhan DOĞRU -TDO- The World Health Organization (WHO) has called for countries that open their borders to vaccinated passengers to recognize all new types of coronavirus (Covid-19) that the organization has granted emergency use to.
The WHO statement could force Western countries to accept two Chinese vaccines, SinoVac and SinoPharm, licensed by the United Nations (UN) health agency but not used in most European and North American countries.
In addition to these vaccines, who has approved vaccines produced by Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca, and Johnson&Johnson.
The European Union's (EU) Medicines Agency (EMA) also does not recognise AstraZeneca's vaccine in India.
Such decisions undermine "confidence in lifesaving vaccines that have proven safe and effective," the WHO said.
