Serhat TUNAR -TDO- European Union foreign ministers meet in Brussels. At the meeting, whose main agenda item is the sanctions against Belarus, there was no consensus on the sanctions against Belarus due to Southern Cyprus ' insistence on imposing sanctions on Turkey and blocking the process.
Speaking at a press conference after the meeting, European Union High Representative for Foreign Relations and Security Policy Josep Borrell announced that European Union foreign ministers could not agree on sanctions against Belarus due to the obstacle of Southern Cyprus.
Borrell explained that the Greek Cypriot administration is not actually against sanctions on Belarus, but wants sanctions on Turkey. "This is a high-tension political issue," Borrell said. The Council of the European Union has to solve this. And it's impossible to tell right now how."
