EU ACCUSES APPLE OF BREACHING COMPETITION LAW

Aslıhan DOĞRU -TDO- The European Union (EU) Commission has accused the United States-based tech giant Apple of breaking competition rules because it is officially pressuring rivals through its music and app sales platform, the App Store.

Eu Commission Senior Vice President Margrethe Vestager told a news conference in Brussels that the US firm had violated competition in selling and leasing music under Apple Store rules, adding that a "statement of objection" had been sent to Apple.

"This is done by demanding high commission fees for every transaction in the App Store for competitors and prohibiting them from informing their customers of alternative subscription options," Vestager said in a statement, noting that music apps have to go to the App Store to reach Apple users and accept "rules imposed" on them by Apple.
