EMIRATES AND QATAR AIRWAYS TO CONTINUE USING IRANIAN AIRSPACE

20/01/2020

Serhat TUNAR -TDO- Despite military operations and attacks between Iran and the United States over Iraqi territory, many companies based in Qatar and the United Arab Emirates have not changed their flight route over Iranian airspace.

Several European and Asian-based international civil aviation firms have stopped flying over Iranian airspace after tensions in the Middle East and the Iranian military accidentally shot down a passenger plane belonging to Ukrainian Airlines.

Companies such as Emirates, Qatar, Etihad, Flydubai and Kuwait Airlines, which have expanded their fleet in recent years, have been adversely affected by recent developments in the region but will continue to use the route on flights connecting Asia and Europe via Iran as a precaution.

Adil al-Ghaith, vice president of Emirates Airlines, said that Iranian airspace is very important for companies in the region and that they continue their daily flights to 10 different cities in Iraq and Iran.
