News Centre -TDO- Ambassador M.R. Hassen, the staff of the Mission and with the participation of Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka appointed to regions in Turkey distributed today (26/4/21) Ramadhan aid packages which included grocery items, dates, and fresh Sri Lankan snacks to the villages at “Yaylabag village in Golbasi, Ankara.” The donation was handed over to the Mukthar of the village Mr. Mustafa Çetin in the presence of villages. The Embassy was to organize an Ifthar breakfast ceremony this year, however due to pandemic restrictions, cancelled the event and arrangement made for this Ramadhan aid package distribution among people need assistance during the pandemic. The gesture of the Mission staff and Honorary Consuls of Sri Lanka is to enhance friendship and display the solidarity among the people of Sri Lanka and Turkey during the holy month of Ramadhan.
Picturesque Yaylabag is located near Eymir Lake in Golbasi outskirt of, Ankara. Yaylabag, which was called as a 'village' before 2004, was turned into a 'neighbourhood' with a Metropolitan Municipality Law. According to the information received from Mr. Mustafa Çetin, Mukhtar of Yaylabag Neighbourhood, total population is approximately 800 perhaps approximately 50 houses located in the village and make their living from agriculture and animal husbandry. This beautiful neighbourhood has a cave named Buzlukönüm and this cave was used for making butter in ancient times. While the cave is a must-see area in the neighbourhood, it is stated that it can also be of great touristic importance.
