Serhat TUNAR - TDO - The peoples of Ukraine and Northern Macedonia go to the polls to elect new heads of state. In both countries, these elections are of great importance in terms of seeing their people's future preferences.

In the first round of presidential elections in Ukraine, two candidates, Petro Poroshenko and Vlamidir Zelenskiy, had the highest number of votes. According to local media, Zelenskiy is said to be around 72 per cent, while Poroshenko can receive about 25 per cent of the vote.

In Ukraine, the public expects solutions to problems related to security, country integrity, energy security, corruption and the economy.

In northern Macedonia, three candidates for the presidency are competing with each other. Candidate Stevo Pendarovski, who is also an academician, is the leading candidate in the polls. Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova from the VMRO-DPMNE party, known for his nationalist rhetoric is second place in the polls. And Blerim Rekahas less chance in the elections according to the polls.

The people of northern Macedonia are also waiting for economic problems, such as Ukrainians, to be solved immediately. Experts said that the electorate may not go to the polls to protest the current economic problems.
