Aslıhan DOĞRU -TDO- The Dutch Parliament has announced that it recognizes China's practices towards Uighurs as 'genocide'.
A non-binding motion describing practices against China's Uighur Muslim minority as genocide was passed during a session of the Dutch parliament on February 25th.
"There is a genocide against the Uighur minority in China," reads a motion submitted to parliament by House of Representatives Member Sjoerd Wiemer Sjoerdsma.
The conservative People's Party for Freedom and Democracy, led by Prime Minister Mark Rutte, voted against the motion.
In this context, the Netherlands became the first European country to define practices against the Uighur minority as genocide.
