Şimal Çınar –TDO- During the morning rush hours of January 15, a twin suicide bombing occurred at Tayran Square, central Baghdad. This is known as a busy square where construction workers gather to find work. The attack was carried out by two men who were wearing suicide vests packed with explosives. Ambulances rushed while security forces were sealing off the area with a yellow tape. According to Iraq’s Interior Ministry spokesman at least 38 people were killed and 62 were wounded but it is reported that the numbers might rise as more bodies were being recovered. No group claimed responsibility for the attack but it bore the hallmarks of Islamic State.
Baghdad has been the target of this type of attacks since 2014. However, after last month the incidents such as this started to get less frequent due to the decleration of the Iraqi government reporting that it has regained all the territory.
