Aslıhan DOĞRU -TDO- Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel has been appointed Secretary-General of the ruling Communist Party of Cuba.
Raul Castro, the brother of former President Fidel Castro, recently announced his resignation as Secretary-General of the Communist Party of Cuba.
Castro said he was stepping down to make way for a "new generation" of leaders.
The 8th congress of the Communist Party of Cuba, which began on April 16th in the capital Havana, lasted 4 days.
Hundreds of delegates attended the convention.
Diaz-Canel, 60, was elected to the post on the last day of the congress.
