Aslıhan DOĞRU -TDO- Voting has begun in European Union (EU) member Croatia as part of local elections.
The country's 3,660,165 registered voters are at the polls to elect mayors and councilors.
Voting will take place at 6,572 polling centers across the country between 08:00 and 20:00 GMT.
More than 38,000 candidates participated in the elections, with the aim of electing new leaders from 428 municipalities, 127 metropolitan municipalities, and 21 cantons.
Croatia's State Election Commission (DIP) is scheduled to announce the first unofficial results before midnight after the election.
Within the framework of the measures implemented within the scope of the measures taken against the new type of coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, it was stated that the second round will be held on 30 May if the necessary majority is not reached in the elections.
