Serhat TUNAR -TDO- The Italian government introduced new measures on October 13th after daily numbers of new cases rose above the first period of the outbreak. The Cabinet agreed that businesses such as restaurants, bars and cafes would be closed at 12pm.
Some businesses that do not want to close their shops have found a way to take advantage of the legal loophole and serve longer with the 'close-open' method against restrictions.
But businesses licensed to stay open 24 hours have chosen to circumvent this restriction by opening their shops back some time after closing at 12pm, without going beyond the law, Italian media reported.
The Emilia-Romagna regional government took the first step after news of the abuse of the law was reflected in the press. Management introduced the new regulation, which states that businesses can do table service from 06.00 in the morning to 12.00 at night, and limits standing consumption from 06.00 in the evening to 21.00 in the evening.
