CORONAVIRUS: GERMANY MOSTLY SHUTS CZECH, AUSTRIA LAND BORDERS

Aslıhan DOĞRU -TDO- Germany has decided to close its borders with the Czech Republic and the Tyrol region of Austria to prevent the spread of new variants of the new type of coronavirus (Covid-19).

According to the decision, which came into force at midnight, only truck drivers and people working in the field of transport and health will be able to enter the borders.

In addition, in order for them to cross the border, they are expected to have a PCR test and their tests to be negative.

Austria reacted too strongly to Germany's decision to close the border.

Austrian Interior Minister Karl Nehammer said in a statement that due to the variant of the virus that is effective in Tyrol, Germany's travel ban on people coming from this region is "absolutely unacceptable”.

Nehammer said Germany's decision on border arrangements was a "hasty decision", which would cause chaos.

Foreign and European Minister Alexander Schallenberg said the decision to close the border would cause harm rather than benefit, and that he had conferred about the desicion his German and Italian counterparts.
