Aslıhan DOĞRU -TDO- The Latin American country Colombia gradually reopened its border with Venezuela after 14 months as part of measures to prevent the spread of the new type of coronavirus (Covid-19).

The two countries, which have a 2,250-kilometer border, do not have diplomatic relations, but Colombia is the first destination for Venezuelans fleeing their country's social and economic crisis.

According to a decision issued by Colombia's Interior Ministry, river and land crossings were allowed to open gradually after midnight on June 2.

According to the ministry's decision, covid-19 biosecurity measures introduced by the Colombian Ministry of Health during the transitions should be observed.
