Selin ATAY-TDO-The Colombian government has decided to close all land and water borders for 2 days due to the general strike that started today.
According to a written statement from the Colombian Immigration Authority, due to the general strike, customs gates at land borders and ports will be closed for 2 days as a precaution.
"By November 22, the country's land and sea borders will be closed to transit," the statement said.
From today, all sea, river and land border crossings, including Ecuador, Peru, Brazil and Venezuela, which have borders with the country, will be closed, officials said.
It said the measure was taken to ensure security during marches and demonstrations in different cities of the country.
For the duration of the measure, passenger and goods traffic to the country by air will continue.
The commander of the guerrilla organization ELN called on the Colombian people to strike. Commander Uriel of the National Liberation Army (ELN) said “Latin America says 'enough' and walks away! The breeze can be felt again, " he said.
