Serhat TUNAR -TDO- 5 cartel members were killed in a shootout between cartel members and police near San Luis Potosi state in Mexico.
State Attorney General Jaime Ernesto Pineda said 5 people identified as members of the Gulf Cartel opened fire on police, and 5 cartel members were killed in the shootout. As a result of the conflict, 5 armored vehicles belonging to the cartel, several long and short-barreled weapons were seized, Pineda added.
The state of San Luis Potosi, in northern Mexico, is the route most used by drug-smuggling cartels because of its geographical location. In the last 10 years, there have been clashes between at least 6 criminal organizations in the region. The Gulf Cartel and Jalisco Nueva Generacion, known as the two most powerful cartels in the region, frequently clash with each other and with police.
