Serhat TUNAR -TDO- In China, where religious freedoms are increasingly restricted, Xi Jinping administration has moved to rewrite the verses of the Koran, Bible and Buddhist sutras according to the ideology of the Maoist Chinese Communist Party.

Last month, a symposium on the issue was held under Wang Yang, a permanent member of the Communist Party of China and deputy prime minister, at which representatives of the country's most important religious faith groups were invited.

At the symposium, Wang Yang argued that religions in the country should be interpreted in a manner consistent with Chinese culture and the doctrines of the Communist Party.

A summary of the symposium, published by Chinese state news agency Xinhua, states that religious texts should be thoroughly evaluated and, where necessary, changes to content that is inappropriate and texts should be re-translated.
