İlknur Şebnem Öztemel-TDO-02.10.2017- According to Catalan sources, about 90 percent of voters said ‘’Yes’’ in the critical referendum.

President of Catalonia, Charles Puigdemont, asserted that the region ‘’got to right to independence’’. He stated "We have won the right to have an independent state in the form of a republic". Also, he added that Europe and EU have no chance to ignore the situation and would no longer be able "to look the other way," with regard to a free and independent Catalonia.

Spain is a state that experienced one of the harshest version of civil war between 1936-1939, dictatorship until the death of General Fransisco Franco and 43 years of terror by ETA, the separatist organization that aims a free Basque region combined with Northern land in France. They know what a real political problem is.

Catalans never included in this kind of actions. What made Catalans to focus on their independence was the feeling as they deserve more appreciation, support and investment from the central government. Global economic crisis in 2008, Spanish failure, their more advantageous position in economics than Madrid, led them to question the ‘’burden’’ they forced to carry and brought them to this point.

Nevertheless, it would be worse for Catalans to be free from Spain. At this point, it would be beneficial to remind that an independent Catalonia would work much to get the rights that currently they use, given by EU.
