Aslıhan DOĞRU -TDO- A vote in the European Parliament (EP) has agreed to lift the immunity of Carles Puigdemont, the former president of Spain's Catalonia region, and an EPs MP.

Three separate parliamentary votes have passed to lift immunity for Puigdemont and two separatist Catalan politicians who fled Spanish courts and have lived in Belgium since October 2017.

In the 705-seat parliament, more than 400 MPs voted to lift immunity for them.

Puigdemont, who has a search and arrest warrant in Spain, and former Catalonian Health Minister Tori Comin and former Education Minister Clara Ponsati have been stripped of their immunity, paving the way for the extradition of separatist Catalans from Belgium to Spain.
