Selin ATAY-TDO- Canada listed the radical right-wing "Proud Boys" group, whose name was much mentioned in a raid on the US congressional building in January, as terrorist organizations.
Bill Blair, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, said at a news conference that they would do whatever needed to be done to ensure the safety of the public. Minister Blair announced that they would add 13 new extremist groups, including the Proud Boys, to the list of terrorist organizations, freezing their assets and imposing criminal sanctions on people associated with them.
According to a statement by Minister Blair, Canada's list of terrorist organizations on the newly added organizations listed as follows: "Atomwaffe Division, The Base, Russian Imperial Movement, Proud Boys, ISID, ISID linked East Asia, ISID-Bangladesh, ISID Libya, West Africa and the Sahara ISID ISID; Organisation Hizbul Mujahideen, Front de libération du match, Ansar Dine." In his speech, Blair expressed that these groups, in particular Atomwaffen Division, The Base, Russian Imperial Movement and Proud Boys, called for violence against people who oppose their ideology and political beliefs.
"We see these extremist groups as a growing threat to Canadians. Steps will also be taken to remove online content belonging to these organizations or their sympathizers. Whatever the ideological motivation, they are all hateful, intolerant and very dangerous. His violent actions and rhetoric are fueled by the combination of white supremacy, anti-Semitism, racism, homophobia, Islamophobia, misogyny and, unfortunately, often all of the above.” the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness said.
