Serhat TUNAR -TDO- In the United States, the actions that began after the murder of George Floyd as a result of police violence spread throughout Europe. In Belgium, the Republic of the Congo was colonized during the reign of King Leopold II. Two separate campaigns were launched to remove Leopold's statues from the streets.
The signatories to the campaign are King Leopold II, who considers Congo his personal property. He wants Leopold's statues in the country removed. To this end, two separate signature campaigns were launched.
The first of his signature campaign was launched by a 14-year-old boy on a social media platform. It was located in Brussels and in the city of Halle. The statues and busts of Leopold were requested to be removed. The boy, Noah, who launched the signature campaign, said: "We are children so we don't want our identities to be revealed. We want to be represented by a non-governmental organization."
