Serhat TUNAR -TDO- British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has accepted NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, who is in London for an official visit. After the meeting, Johnson and Stoltenberg reportedly agreed to halt Turkey's military action in northern Syria. The two leaders expressed great concern about developments in northern Syria, Jonhson's spokesman said.
A British spokesman said: "Both leaders recognize the important role Turkey plays within NATO and the importance of its assistance to migrants affected by the crisis in Syria. The two leaders, however, have made clear that Turkey's ongoing operation should stop," the statement said.
Britain announced on Tuesday (yesterday) that it was suspending arms exports to Turkey.
The ceasefire is the most important element in the normalization of relations between the United States and Turkey, a senior diplomat at the United States State Department said. The US diplomat also warned that sanctions against Turkey could increase.
