Selin ATAY-TDO- Bosniak Presidency member Sefik Dzaferovic and his Croat counterpart Zeljko Komsic refused to meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov Tuesday at the Presidency building since Lavrov first met with Serb officials in Istocno Sarajevo, Monday evening, where no Bosnian state flag was seen in the room.
Tuesday (December 15th), Lavrov's schedule included a meeting with three members of the Presidential Council in the capital, Sarajevo. However, only Serbian member Milorad Dodik attended the meeting at the Presidency building. During Lavrov's meeting at the building, Dzaferovic and Komsic held a joint press conference.
At a meeting last night, Zeljko Komsic described the absence of the BiH flag in the hall as "disrespectful" and "ignoring state institutions". "This is an attitude that ignores the decision-making authority of the state institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Lavrov knows that the Republika Srpska entity cannot make decisions alone., "he said. Komsic said that they did not participate in the meeting with Lavrov due to the negativity, and said: "How should we conduct friendly relations with Russia in this case?"
"Russia has said it respects the Dayton peace agreement, but the statements last night show the opposite," Dzaferovic said, stressing that Moscow's move touched Bosnia and Herzegovina's pride. He also said that respecting Dayton is equivalent to respecting the State, integrity, institutions and flag of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Dzaferovic also talked about the country's aims in domestic and foreign policy. "Our goals in domestic policy are to respect Dayton and to treat all nations living in this country equally. Our foreign policy is membership in the European Union (EU) and NATO,” Dzaferovic said. "We are determined and proud people. As soon as we make a decision, we follow it. Those who want to remain friends with us, including Russia, should respect that" he added.
