Serhat TUNAR -TDO- United States President Joe Biden has warned that sanctions lifted in the wake of a military coup in Myanmar could be reinstated in the country's democratic transition.
"The declaration of national martial law in Myanmar is a direct attack on Myanmar's transition to democracy and the rule of law," Biden said in a written statement on the military coup in Myanmar. For almost 10 years, the people of Myanmar have been fighting for elections, civilian rule and the peaceful transfer of government. This process must be respected."
Biden said the international community should also respond to Myanmar's military and call on the military to release those detained, again giving the administration civilians, and said his government is taking note of what happened with the Myanmar people during these difficult times.
