Why has the US Vice President shown a red card to the corrupt Ukrainian elite?
Talks on fighting corruption dominated US Vide President Joe Biden’s visit to Kiev. It was his fourth visit to Ukraine since the Maidan Revolution which led to the ousting of former president Viktor Yanukovych and a government change. In his speech in the Verkhovna Rada Mr Biden called on Ukrainian members of parliament and ministers to eradicate “the cancer of corruption.”
The American Vice President paid tribute to the “Heavenly Hundred”, the protesters killed in Kiev during bloody events in January-February 2014. “Their sacrifice is now your obligation,” Mr Biden declared. The task to root out corruption also dominated the agenda in Biden’s talks with high officials and civic society representatives. He held private meetings with President Petro Poroshenko and Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk.
