Mustafa AY – TDO – 31.01.2018 Qatar’s Minister of State for Defense Khalid bin Mohammad Al Attiyah made vital remarks to the press with regards to US Forces stationed in Al-Udeid air base near Doha. The Minister Attiyah said that Qatar has plans to increase the capacity of housing units for US Forces that may be deployed in addition to approximately 10,000 US soldiers already in service in Qatar. According to the construction plans, there will be extra 200 housing units for the use of US officers’ families with a school for US soldiers’ children. Besides these preparations for the possible deployment of US soldiers in the future, Qatar also started to renovating its neglected naval ports for US Navy’s use.
Aside from all these collaborative progresses, there is an undeniable fact that Qatar has been confronting with a series of sanctions by Saudi-led Arabic bloc. These sanctions started with US President Trump’s tweets to the detriment of Qatar. Trump stigmatized Qatar as a country fostering terrorism within and outside Qatar. Trump’s tweets had a piece of trueness because Taliban’s political mission was literally permitted in Doha by Qatari administration. But, this doesn’t change the course of troubles Qatar has been exposed to go through. Therefore, since US President’s words played a key role in damaging Qatar’s prestige, it’s really astonishing to see a perpetuation of cooperation amid Qatar and USA.
