Selin ATAY-TDO- One of the biggest the novel type of coronavirus (Covid-19) vaccination sites in United States of America briefly shut down on 30 January because maskless, anti-vaccine protesters blocked the entrance.
Thousands of motorists in line to get a coronavirus vaccine shot at Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles, were stalled as approximately 50 people demonstrating against immunization efforts caused officials to temporarily close the site's gates. The protesters, members of anti-vaccine and far-right groups, organized via online platforms. Dozens of protesters arrived at the site on Saturday afternoon, many carrying signs with messages undermining efforts to curb infections and calling the coronavirus pandemic which has killed more than 438,000 Americans a "scam." "END THE LOCKDOWN," read one sign, "COVID=SCAM," another said.
Due to the protest of anti-vaccine demonstrators, fire officials closed the vaccination facility at 14.00, but when events calmed down, they allowed re-entry an hour later. The Covid-19 vaccination site operates between 8.00 and 20.00 under normal circumstances. Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman David Ortiz told reporters that the protest had no impact on the number of shots given Saturday at the site, which can vaccinate 8,000 people a day.
No arrests were made and there were no violent incidents during protests, according to police.
