News Centre -TDO- The Philippines ' Ambassador To Turkey Is Raul S. Hernandez takes over the chairmanship of the ASEAN Ankara Committee from Lalu Muhamad Iqbal, Indonesia's Ambassador to Turkey, whose term of office ends on June 30, 2020. The handover ceremony was held at the residence of Indonesia's Embassy in Ankara. Ambassador Hernandez thanked Ambassador Iqbal, who successfully completed his mission during the pandemic during a difficult time.
Ambassador Hernandez provided information on the activities ASEAN plans to do to increase its recognition in Turkey. The Ambassador's plans include activities such as ASEAN family day, a donation of books to the newly opened Presidential Library and organising a seminar on economics in Istanbul.
The ASEAN Ankara Committee was established in January 2009 with the joint work of the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam. Over the years, it has grown and continues to grow, with the inclusion of Singapore, Brunei and Cambodia. The ASEAN Ankara Committee continues to support ASEAN’s political and economic interests by establishing sustainable partnerships with Turkish government agencies, local government units, commercial organizations, NGOs and academia. At the same time, each member of ASEAN participates in promotional activities showcasing the various cultures, art and culinary traditions of the country and works to make the concept of ASEAN known to the Turkish community.
