İlknur Şebnem Öztemel – TDO – As Afghans try to cope with the chaos in the country, officials seek to have an agreement with Taliban. The High Peace Council (HPC), the Afghan government body set up for negotiations with the Taliban, defined a new settlement strategy that prevents participation of third party countries to the peace talks.

A HPC spokesman, Mohammad Ismail Qasimyar, said “We are trying to find ways that could help us engage in direct talks with the Taliban in order to bring them to the negotiating table and to reach comprehensive reconciliation through inter-Afghan dialogue”.

In May, the latest round of peace talks between Taliban and Afghan government, brokered by Pakistan, took place in Islamabad. Also, USA and China joined to the meeting. However, peace talks were interrupted as a U.S. drone strike killed Taliban leader Mullah Mansour.  Pakistani officials condemned the move and argued that the death of Taliban's leader aggravated the peace process.
