Aslıhan DOĞRU -TDO- The Afghan government said it had released 100 Taliban prisoners as part of the peace process following an agreement between the United States and the Taliban.
Afghanistan's National Security Counsil Spokesman Javid Faisal said the releases were passed through the identity scanning system and their commitments were taken that they would not fight again.
The prisoners were released after their age, health status and remaining sentencing periods were evaluated.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid noted that the militants who had released were not part of the prisoner swap.
Mujahid emphasise that the released prisoners were not named on the list of 5,000 people submitted to the Afghan government.
