İlknur Şebnem Öztemel- TDO-An international aerospace exhibition, Aero India, will be held at Air Force Base Yelahanka/ Bengaluru, India's high-tech capital, similar to Silicon Valley in the United States, between 14-18 February.  It is organized by India's Defense Ministry with the support of the Indian government.

Actually, the fairdates back to the early 1990’s when private businesses were admitted into the military industry. 

The first exhibition, called Avia India, in 1993 with the support of the Indian Air Force.The next exhibition was scheduled for 1995, but was later canceled due to security reasons and lack of proper training.In 1996, Yelahanka hosted the exhibition, renamed as Aero India.

The second exhibition was conducted in 1998. Over 170 companies from 17 countries, including Boeing, Allied Signal, Bell Textron, Airbus Industries, Aerospatiale, Dassault and British Aerospace. Russian and France overwhelmed the organization.

Third exhibitionwas held in 2001, 150 companies from 18 countries attended to it.

Each year, Aero India air show is expanding to include more participants and visitors. While, there were 174 participants in 2003, there were 236 foreign desks in 2005.

In 2007, Aero India was attended by over 400 companies, including major manufacturers and suppliers from 15 countries.

In 2009, 600 companies around 100 of them were civilians, joined the event.

In 2011, 675 companies from 29 countries brought their latest aerospace designs to the show. The area of the show has grown by 70 percent to a total of 75,000 square meters, up from 44,000 square meters in 2009. Also, the number of exhibitors has also increased by 16 percent.

In 2013, 274 foreign and 296 local firms, from 29 countries attended the exhibition. Moreover, fairground was expanded to over 108,000 square meters. The most important news in the event was that,this time, almost 55 percent of the aircrafts at the show, were owned by civil airliners.

Aero India had significant development in 2015. 326 foreign and 318 Indianfirms took part in Aero India 2015, from 33 countries and 46 foreign delegations.

Upcoming event in this week underlines the rising role of the East in aerospace and military industry rather than providing only cheap production to West.
