Serhat TUNAR -TDO- Tens of thousands of Poles protested against a new Constitutional Court ruling that made abortion almost entirely illegal.
According to the decision of the Constitutional Court, an abortion can no longer be performed due to violations found in the fetus. Only if rape, incest, and a danger to the mother's life can be resorted to.
Poles who blocked vehicle traffic and blocked roads in many cities, including the capital Warsaw, on their vehicles, bicycles and on foot, carried banners reading 'I want the right to choose, not to be terrorized'.
Ignoring the coronavirus restrictions, the demonstrators continued their actions for hours. The activists, who say they are determined to continue the protests every day if necessary, are seen as a resistance in a dimension not expected by the Roman Catholic Church, which is deep-rooted and institutionalized in Poland.
