The doctor, 57-year-old Marcello Natali, who previously said hospitals in his country were unprepared for the outbreak and forced to work without gloves like other doctors, could not be saved despite all efforts.
In an interview with the media, the Italian doctor who died of pneumonia due to Covid-19 expressed the drama experienced by the Italian doctors, saying that 14 out of 35 doctors were in quarantine at the hospital in the town of Codogno, where he also lived.
Paola Pedrini, Secretary General of the National Federation of General Practitioners, said the outbreak was also seriously threatening Italian doctors and that 110 out of 600 doctors were sick in the Bergamo region alone.
Paola Pedrini said the situation had not improved since February and that there were not enough masks and gloves.
