The Armenian problem has been inherited by the Republic of Turkey from Ottoman times. Throughout the past, the Ottoman State was seen as “different”, “the other” and even “enemy” by Western Europe, which made an effort to break it apart, destroy it and throw it out of Europe. An important part of these efforts were towards domestic destabilisation and promoting uprisings.
