News Center -TDO- A reception was held at the Ankara Sheraton Hotel, hosted by Sazali Bin Mustafa Kemal, Malaysia's Ambassador to Ankara, on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of Malaysia's independence.
Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar, Commander of the Naval Forces Admiral Ercüment Tatlıoğlu, ambassadors and many guests attended the reception.
Ambassador Sazali, who made a speech at the reception, reminded that Malaysia gained its independence from Britain on August 31, 1957 and said, "This is the date when Malaysians, regardless of Malay, Indian or Chinese, established their own nation by joining hands." Said.
Stating that Malaysia has created a strong economy and national identity since then, Ambassador Sazali said, "Malaysia's diplomatic relations with Turkey were established in 1964. Since then, the relations of the two Muslim countries have developed and matured. With the last visit of our Prime Minister to Turkey. Our relations have further developed and reached the level of strategic partnership." said.
Ambassador Sazali also referred to the visit of the King and Queen of Malaysia to Turkey in August, "Long before these two visits, we established cooperation in many fields. Our peoples also benefited from the development of these relations. Malaysian students can take their place in the Turkish education system. Our cooperation in such areas can be further strengthened. We must work together to improve our inter-university research collaboration." said.
In his speech here, Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said, "Malaysia is an important partner and brother in Southeast Asia, within the scope of our multidimensional foreign policy and our 'Asia Re-Initiative'." said.
Minister of National Defense Akar explained that the friendly relations between the two countries reached the level of strategic partnership in 2014, which further strengthened the relations. Minister Akar said, "During the visit of the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Mr. Yakub, our existing strategic partnership was upgraded to the level of 'comprehensive strategic partnership'. This further increased the importance of our relations. This is a first for our relations with Southeast Asian countries." he said.
Noting that TAI's opening an office in Malaysia last year is one of the important indicators of this, Minister Akar said that cooperation in the field of defense industry will increase even more.
At the end of his speech, Minister Akar, pointing to Sazali Bin Mustafa Kemal, the Ambassador of Malaysia to Ankara, said, "There are ambassadors of many countries in Turkey. But it is difficult to remember the names of all of them every time, but it is impossible to forget the name of our Ambassador to Malaysia." he said.
After the speeches, Minister Akar and Ambassador Sazali cut the cake prepared to commemorate the 65th anniversary of Malaysia's independence.
