News Center -TDO- Hosted by Japan's Ambassador to Turkey Akio Miyajima, the 16th Japanese Film Festival was inaugurated at Ankara Büyülü Fener cinemas on March 6, 2020.
Several films, including Director Tsutomu Hayabusa's “Tori Girl” and director Akira Kurosawa’s “Kumonosu-Jö”, will be screened for free as part of the festivities, which will run until March 12th.
Speaking at the opening of the Festival, Ambassador Miyajima said: "Welcome to the sixteenth Ankara Japanese Film Festival.
I am very pleased to have had the opportunity to introduce Japanese films at the Red Crescent, where many of us have often fallen in the way.
At this year's festival, “Let's Go Jets” will be on display for a week, with anime films about today's Japanese youth and a film by Kurosawa Akira, one of Japan's leading film directors.
In closing, I would like to express my gratitude to all interested parties, especially the Japan Promotion Foundation and the Büyülü Fener Cinema, who have contributed to the realization of this film festival.”
In his speech, Yasuhiro Nippashi, head of Culture Department at the Embassy of Japan, said that Japanese films are of great importance in terms of promoting Japanese culture and that Akira Kurosawa, the master director, is well known to Turkish film lovers.
