Aslıhan DOĞRU -TDO- French Prime Minister Jean Castex announced that all-day curfews will be imposed for 4 weeks from March 20th in 16 regions, including the capital Paris, due to an increase in the number of cases in the new type of coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
"The third wave is seen in many European cities, the reason is the British variant. It accounts for 3/4 of Covid-19 cases, it is spreading faster and potentially more serious," he said.
Castex stressed that the pandemic situation is alarming and therefore additional measures should be taken.
Schools in the 16 announced regions will remain open, Castex said, adding that only stores selling basic necessities will be available and other stores will be closed.
In a statement, Castex said citizens can travel within 10 kilometers of the house without time restrictions, and announced that cross-region travel is banned in the country except in mandatory circumstances.
It said the curfew would start at 7 p.m. instead of 6 p.m.
