'STOP USING SO MUCH ENGLISH', FRENCH JOURNALISTS TELL EU COMMISSION

27/09/2020

Serhat TUNAR -TDO- French journalists have reacted to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen's frequent use of English in her statements. French journalists who follow developments in the European Union claim that Leyen gives the British press a competitive edge.

A September French-language statement issued by the European Journalists ' Association reminded Leyen and Council of Europe President Charles Michel that the use of various European languages in communication by European Union institutions is a legal obligation contained in the founding agreements.

Journalists complained that all statements about the new migration pact proposal, presented earlier in the week, were published in English.
