Serhat TUNAR -TDO- In the election held at the United Nations General Assembly, Turkey's candidate for the presidency of the 75th General Assembly of the United Nations, Former European Union Minister and chief negotiator, president of the parliamentary Foreign Affairs Commission Ambassador Volkan Bozkir was elected.
Due to the Coronavirus outbreak, the representatives of the member states were taken to the hall one by one in the time zone allocated to them and cast their votes.
192 member states voted in the United Nations General Assembly, in which 193 countries were represented. Venezuela was unable to vote in this election because it was unable to pay the financial contribution debt that member states had to pay to the United Nations.
Volkan Bozkir, the only candidate for the presidency of the United Nations General Assembly, received the support of 178 countries and was elected as the 75th-term president of the United Nations General Assembly.
Bozkir will assume the position from Tijjani Muhammad-Bande, the previous General Assembly President, on September 15 and will remain in that position until September 2021.
