UN METEOROLOGICAL AGENCY WARNS ON CLIMATE

16/01/2020

Serhat TUNAR -TDO- The past 10-year period has been the warmest recorded globally, the United Nations said, warning that extreme events will occur in 2020 and beyond due to the heat.

Citing data from international institutions on climate change, the United Nations World Meteorological Organization (WMO) said in a statement that melting glaciers could cause sea levels to rise, warming and acidification in the oceans, as well as extreme weather conditions.

However, the rise in global temperatures due to climate change could have dire consequences.

The WMO also reported that the European Union Climate Change Monitoring Authority (Copernicus) confirmed data that '2019 is the second warmest year on record globally'.
