İrem GÖL -TDO- Kawasaki like disease associated with Covid-19 had been reported to affect 230 children in Europe. The Swedish-based European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control said in a report that two children had lost their lives due to the new inflammatory syndrome, one in the UK and one in France. WHO urged the experts about the new syndrome, but also said that links to Covid-19 is not proven yet.
WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said: “I call on all clinicians worldwide to work with your national authorities and WHO to be alert and better understand this syndrome in children.” WHO also stated that the disease became frequent during the pandemic but also appeared in children whose coronavirus tests were negative.
After reporting more than 100 cases of the new disease in the state of New York, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a guidance to doctors on how to recognise and report cases of the syndrome. Also the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control agreed to include the syndrome as possible complication of Covid-19 to be reported for Europe-wide surveillance.
