Serhat TUNAR -TDO- Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hami Aksoy responded to a question asked by European Commission Vice President Margaritis Schinas, who recently gave an interview to the press about his remarks on migration.
Hamdi Aksoy, in his written reply, said: "the statements made by Margaritis Schinas, vice president of the European Commission responsible for promoting the European way of life, on migration, are more akin to the political rhetoric of members of the Greek government than a European Union official."
Hamdi Aksoy, the European Commission, the European Union did not conduct a serious review of the rights violations at the borders of the statement continued as follows::
"We therefore remind Commissioner Schinas that he must first investigate the Pakistani murder of Muhammad Gulzar, committed by Greek officials, the ongoing pushback in the Aegean Sea and the Meriç River, the lack of asylum applications by asylum seekers, national practices contrary to international agreements and the European Union asylum directive, and the violence against human rights defenders.
Turkey is not and will not be the European Union's border guard or asylum seeker camp. Our country, which suffers greatly from the phenomenon of irregular migration, wants only fair burden and responsibility sharing. The protection of the European Union's external borders by ignoring human rights and asylum seeker rights would mean denial of the European Union's founding treaties. Essentially, seeing Europe's external borders as Greece means being completely free from historical and geographical realities."
