Mustafa AY – TDO – 12.11.2018 On Sunday, French President Emanuel Macron and his US counterpart Donald Trump discussed the issues of newly-renewed heavy sanctions on Iran, civil wars in Yemen and Syria, brutal murder of Khashaqqi and EU’s initiative on creating defence army just before marking commemoration of WWI in France’s capital Paris.
After finishing discussions on abovementioned issues that are currently occupying world’s agenda, President Macron touched on the necessity of formation of defence army belonging to EU. Macron emphasized the gravity of creation of EU army by uttering that they will have a chance to realize how EU is self-sufficient on the matter of defence with project of EU defence pact and without NATO’s help. Macron’s words predictably prompted reaction of US President Donald Trump. In response to Macron, Trump said that EU ought to assume more on defence budget of NATO first.
Following shaking discussion between Trump and Macron, Putin shared how he approached to the idea of ‘EU defence pact’ with these supportive remarks to Macron: “EU is an economically powerful bloc. It is natural for a continent with economic power to want to be independent and sovereign in the fields of defence and security… The project of EU defence army is good for multipolar world!”
