İlknur Şebnem Öztemel-TDO-15.08.2017- Suspected jihadists killed at least 18 people and wounded several in Burkina Faso's capital, Ouagadougou.

Terrorists attacked on a Turkish restaurant called ‘’Aziz Istanbul’’ and Splendid Hotel located next, killed at least 28 people including one Turkish citizen.

Following the event, Communications Minister Remi Dandjinou determined the event as a ‘’terror attack’’ during a press conference about the unfortunate event.

Also, he said the toll was provisional because the security operation was still underway.

Previously, thirty people were killed in another attack in January 2016. Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) claimed responsibility.

Western Africa region and the Shara desert are suffering from radicalism and terror for so long. In 2012, they hijacked a Tuareg rebellion in Mali. This led a French intervention to the region and then terrorists focused on Burkina Faso and Ivory Coast.

Recently, African nations launched a new multinational military force to tackle militants in the last month but it will not be operational until later this year and faces a budget shortfall.

In several regions that geography is though, less populated and states fail to achieve their security goals, terrorism spreads. Western Africa and Sahara Dessert are good examples of it. Any ‘’guests’’ that wanted to serve local residents, immediately became the new target of these radicalists.
