Serhat TUNAR -TDO- The liquid, called solar thermal fuel, discovered by scientists at the Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden, can store the energy collected from the sun for 18 years. This method is expected to revolutionize clean and renewable energy.
Together with this liquid, it is aimed to increase the potential of solar energy usage which was previously 20 percent to 30 percent. It is stated that the liquid can store 250 Watts per kilogram. This density is about twice the capacity of Tesla's Powerball batteries.
As it is known, one of the biggest disadvantages of solar energy is the problem of storing energy. The system discovered is a norbornadiene molecule of carbon, hydrogen and nitrogen. When sunlight reaches this molecule, the atomic bonds of the fluid change to become isomers and store energy as heat.
Scientists agree that this technology can be used in the future and that the amount of stored energy can be increased soon. This technology is expected to be commercialized over the next 10 years.
