Mustafa AY – TDO – 20.10.2018 Jamal Khashoggi, the journalist of US Washington Post Journal, vanished after entering into Saudi Arabia’s Consulate General in İstanbul on 2nd of October. His sudden disappearance brought the possibility of murder into his fiancée’s mind and then, the World. Since the allegations of murder of Jamal Khashoggi by Saudi consulate officers came up, Turkish Police Unit of Forensic Science launched an investigation within the consulate building for the purpose of enlightening the case with objective evidence as it should be. On 18th of October, when the police investigation finished in the consulate building, a forensic science expert, whose garment had blood on, attracted the crowd of journalist waiting in front of the consulate building. This reinforced the accuracy of allegations, which Saudi Arabia initially denied by telling “the allegations are all about unfounded speculations”.
On Friday, Saudi Arabia released an official statement to vindicate the allegations of murder of Jamal Khashoggi. Riyadh asserted that Jamal Khashoggi was murdered in a fight with consulate officers. Even though Riyadh confirmed the murder, they avoided sharing any information related to what happened to the body of Khashoggi. Riyadh also announced that Gen. Ahmed al-Asiri – Director of Saudi Arabia’s Main Intelligence- has just been removed from office as well as 18 Saudi officers would be apprehended. On 18th of October, before the day Saudi Arabia confirmed the allegations, the New York Times interestingly came up with a claim that Saudi Arabia would blame Gen. Ahmed al-Asiri for the murder of Khashoggi after confirming the allegations of murder of Jamal Khashoggi.
